NFL 2025 season: Week six
Real-time updates includes text commentary of Sunday's games on multiple platforms, starting with the Broncos-Jets clash at Tottenham (kicking off at 2 PM BST). Also, radio commentary is available through select stations for another key matchup (from 21:00 BST).
We're in the sixth week in the NFL season , after last week's talk about two top teams as possible championship contenders, they both surrendered their unbeaten records.
Striking in those games was the amount of penalties both committed. Philadelphia did so at crucial times so they essentially defeated themselves after leading by two touchdowns going into the fourth period versus the Denver Broncos, who play overseas this Sunday.
But it was good to see that Denver quarterback Bo Nix managed to overcome that deficit before direct three successful possessions on three possessions during the final period, securing the game by four points.
Denver have the top defender with cornerback their star corner. They rank number one in red zone defence, whereas the Eagles lead the league in red zone offence, yet Denver prevailed in that battle.
They executed the Eagles' number in terms of disguised blitzes. They weren't necessarily sending extra defenders instead they could plug two LBs in the interior then withdrawing them and send a nickel off the edge.
At the start in the campaign, it was noted during a show how the Broncos might emerge as the current year's surprise contenders. They finished the previous year well then did a good job of building upon that.
Are the Denver Broncos this season's underdog story?
Recently acquired TE Evan Engram has stepped up significantly and recent RB JK Dobbins is a player they believe in. He now ranks fifth in the NFL in ground gains (over 400) and tied-fourth in rushing scores (four).
It's impressive how the coach the Broncos' leader displays "RUN IT!" at the top on his call sheet.
That shows how Denver are a team aiming to run first, since you can do a lot based on that approach. It reduces opposing rushes and keeps you in favourable situations.
This has helped QB Bo Nix, who came into the league as the 12th overall draft pick in the prior draft, passing for 29 touchdown passes – second only to a star QB for the rookie record (31 in 2020).
Other elite QBs have the arm strength to pass all over, however they don't move the mobility as Nix. He boasts incredible passing ability, which is different, and he is highly agile.
His strengths are his movement, being able to pass on the run, and finding different arm angles to make throws as he moves out of the pocket, the bootlegs. He can deliver precision throws over the middle and over the corner.
As a rookie QB, at 25, he displays a lot of poise in the pocket and is not really fazed by the blitz. He aims to evade a sack as much as possible and can throw in tight spots. He possesses sharp intelligence and remains very decisive.
When you constantly run the ball it eats up time and forces the defence to stay in play extended periods, and when you've got an athletic quarterback the defense has to cover the area vertically and horizontally. This proves exhausting.
Nix has bitten back at Payton during games sometimes and it seems Payton likes that fire, seeing him as such a competitor. In my view it's fun for the coach to coach a rookie QB that is similar to play-dough. He can truly build something up how he desires to build it. I believe it's a unique opportunity for the coach.
Payton owns a Super Bowl and now surpassed a legend in all-time victories (173 - tied 14th overall). He has witnessed everything. In my opinion the achievements the Broncos are experiencing offensively is largely down to his guidance, his play-calling, his game sense – and the combination with Nix aids make him into who he is.
There's no better a more qualified person guiding you, to help you during difficult moments and boost confidence.
I have faith in the Broncos' defense, in the QB's grit and calm. But is the team good enough to go against an elite team at full strength? Because that was not championship-level play by the Eagles last Sunday.
Right now, it's unlikely Denver are incredible. They're working better than most, which is a solid position to hold the AFC West. The key is is maintain this path.
They excel at embracing their strength, that is the ground game, and that's precisely what they should do versus the New York Jets in London. It will likely be the JK Dobbins show, essentially.
The Jets have allowed 140 yards on the ground each contest (sixth worst), five ground scores so far (10th worst), and they are the only team without a win a game.
Ever since the NFL began tracking takeaways decades ago, the Jets are also the first team to go without any turnovers in five outings, which is surprising considering that their new coach Aaron Glenn defensive co-ordinator at the Detroit Lions.
Patrick Mahomes stated the Chiefs are off to a poor start following a recent loss by the Jaguars.
Following the upcoming matchup, the Broncos face a smooth-ish schedule up to their bye (in week 12) - the New York Giants, the Cowboys, the Texans and the Raiders before the Kansas City Chiefs.
In their division, Kansas City are 2-3 and the Broncos are tied with the Chargers at 3-2 so they could make a run for the top of the West.
It depends on which form Kansas City shows up they face since the Broncos {beat|def
