Citizens have gathered around the country to remember two years since the Hamas-initiated attack on October 7th, 2023, as talks advanced in the neighboring country over an end to the hostilities in Gaza.

The assault resulted in over 1,200 people dead and 251 others captured away to Gaza as hostages. It was the most most lethal day for Jewish people since the Second World War.

Israel answered by initiating a military offensive in Gaza which has taken over 67,000 people, as reported by the region's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its statistics are considered trustworthy by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"The violent adversaries have caused great damage, but they have not broken us," the prime minister added on that day.

He also vowed to "achieve all the goals of the war: the homecoming of all the captured, the removal of the Hamas administration and the assurance that Gaza will never again create a threat to Israel".

Remembrance Gatherings Across Israel

The national leadership delayed formal remembrance events until mid-October - after the completion of the religious holiday season - but events still were held throughout the country on Tuesday.

A memorial ceremony for the loved ones of people who died in the Hamas assault was organized in Tel Aviv. Organized by the victims' relatives, it was televised throughout Israeli TV networks.

A period earlier, a silent tribute was observed across the country.

Negotiation Discussions in Egypt

Simultaneously, the conflicting parties' delegations met in the North African Red Sea resort of the negotiation venue for a continuing round of indirect talks to discuss the conditions of the plan.

A high-ranking Palestinian official familiar with the negotiations revealed that an night meeting of negotiations started at 19:00 Cairo time.

The representative said the day's discussions finished without tangible results, because of conflicting views over the recommended Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas wants to ensure Israel does not resume combat after the opening period of the deal.

He commented that the discussions are "tough and have yet to produce any real breakthrough," but mentioned that intermediaries are making efforts to reduce the differences between the both parties.

Key Issues in Talks

  • A permanent ceasefire
  • The swap of the prisoners still kept by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Arrangements for assistance deliveries
  • Post-war management of the area

Civilian Sentiment

In the city's public square previously, 29-year-old a woman - whose brother survived the attack on the Nova music festival, where hundreds were murdered and many more were captured by Hamas militants - shared: "No place appears as home now and until each abducted person are released none of us will have peace of mind."

"After we see all home again, we can feel relief anew. Then we can begin to heal," she added.

Near the leader's residence in the capital, people gathered to express their support for the loved ones of the captives. Israel reports nearly fifty continue in detention in Gaza, 20 of whom are considered to be surviving.

Demonstrator a participant stated: "We must do every compromise necessary for the captives to come back home. But we sincerely need guarantees that we will be secure."

Research now consistently show that about the majority of Israelis desire the hostilities to finish in return for the liberation of the hostages.

Palestinian Situation

At the area of the music event, grieving people came together to remember the victims.

From there, the sound of military attacks and artillery could be detected just a brief space away in Gaza, where witnesses reported the heavy Israeli bombardment continued.

In Gaza City, air and artillery strikes were noted in the early hours of Tuesday in the west side district, sector and zone districts and in the east side district of Sheikh Radwan, as well the camp to the north-west.

"As the evening comes, the fear appears with it," evacuated urban resident a mother, whose young son was died by an Israeli aerial attack last year, explained.

"We are afraid of the bombings. During nighttime we are sleeping together, clinging, particularly my smallest child who rests his head on me throughout the night."

"Continuously we look at the news to see the situation. And I'm concerned that this ceasefire will not be completed and that the conflict will return to us."

Humanitarian Emergency

The medical facility in the urban area said it had received the remains of half dozen people by the afternoon, including several killed in an Israeli attack in the south part district.

Another medical facility in the south region of the city reported additional victims had been delivered. A person was killed by Israeli troops while looking for aid to the south region, health workers reported.

The territory's health ministry reported twenty-five of the {territ
