Vince Gilligan Shares He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... At the Moment.

The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would become a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the acclaimed series coming to an end—and a second season officially in the works—the writers' room recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will influence the future direction of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Fan Response

Anyone might to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“It's like being force fed something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's the greatest thing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's intentional. I have never looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not changed by what people are saying.”

“It's wiser to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.

A Pressing Query: Does the showrunner Know the Ending of Pluribus?

Given that the writers are not listening by fan response, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? In short yes… with some caveats.

“We have some potential directions about the ultimate destination,” he states. “but we are always ready to throw out a decent plan for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Alternatively, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.

“I keep pitching that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” Smith quips, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Alternatively, why mess with the classics?

“My dream is Carol to open her eyes beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is currently available on the streaming service.
